Training on food processing, preservation begins

Imphal, December 06 2022:
A 3-day training programme on Mushroom Production Technology and Processing and Value Addition of locally available fruits and vegetables commenced at the conference hall of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Iroisemba, on Tuesday.
The training programme is being jointly organised by Directorate of Extension Education, CAU Imphal and MTTC&VTC, COA, CAU Imphal under the aegis of ICAR National Institute of Biotic Stress Management (NIBSM) Raipur.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural function, CAU College of Agriculture dean Prof Indira Sarangthem noted that there is no more the profuse yearning for only white-collared jobs as many people are more into development of entrepreneurship.
Considering the evolving socio-economic situation, CAU is trying to gather farmers interested in mushroom cultivation and provide them the basic training to increase their yield and make them self-sustainable and successful entrepreneurs in future.
The training that will be provided will surely help them in becoming what they want, she opined.
Apart from mushroom cultivation, the participants of the training will be made acquainted in processing and preserving various fruits and vegetable available in the state.
This will help the women folks running a family to take up small businesses and supplement family income, Indira said.
She also informed that the training is only the beginning as another result-oriented training programme will be conducted following which a third training to help become an entrepreneur would be organised.
Though this training for processing and preserving fruits and vegetable has been taken up for the first time by CAU, over thousands of tribal beneficiaries have already been benefitted through training under TRIFED Project, she added.
Presided over by CAU Pathology head Prof L Nongdrenkhomba Singh, the inaugural function was also attended by Prof L Nabachandra Singh of Agronomy Department and Professor U Chaoba of Horticulture Department as guests of honour.
