Rhythms of Manipur troupe to tour Port of Spain

Imphal, December 04 2017:
A ten-member troupe of the Rhythms of Manipur will tour Port of Spain, the capital city of Trinidad and Tobago from December 7 to 12 to present Manipuri cultural items in three different places of the twin island country .
During the tour, the troupe will present well known fusion music Dancing Drummer, Maibi Jagoi, Thougal Jagoi, Kabui Dance, Dhol Chollom, Pung Chollom, Manipuri martial arts, stick dance numbers at Felicity Hindu School, Cancandee Road on December 8 to be followed by Vinayaaka Avocat Mandir, Fyzabad on December 9 and at Central Bank Auditorium, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on December 11 .
Besides the three days cultural performance, the troupe will also hold a workshop with the local artistes and will perform a fusion music on December 9 and 10 .
The tour is sponsored by the Indian Council For Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi and the High Commission of India Mahatama Gandhi Institute for Cultural Co-operation in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development Culture and the Arts,Trinidad .
Director of the Rhythms of Manipur, Aribam Laxmirani will lead the troupe .
It may be mentioned that the Rhythms of Manipur established in the year 1985 is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India since 1994 and empaneled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) .
Rhythms of Manipur had toured Singapore and Hong Kong in the year 2013 under the sponsorship of Indian Council for Cultural Relations .
Under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture, Rhythms of Manipur in August of this year toured Vientiane, the capital city of Loas Peoples Democratic Republic in connection with the 70th Anniversary of Indian Independence and 25 years of Indo-ASEAN relationship .
The troupe will leave Imphal on December 6 and New Delhi on December 7 early morning for Amsterdam on way to Port of Spain and will back home on December 15 .
