1.2 lakh LPG consumers still to be verified

Out of the 2.9 lakh consumers using cooking gas in Manipur, 1.2 lakh consumers still need to be verified officially.
According to sources from IOC, following an order from the Ministery of Petroleum and Natural Gas, LPG consumers of the State have to be verified before November 15 .
However, due to poor response, IOC extended the deadline for the second time till November 30.With no good response, IOC has been compelled to extend the deadline again till December 31, 2012 .
Sources revealed that out of the total 2.9 lakh domestic LPG consumers in the state only 1.5 lakh consumers could be authenticated while another 18, 000 consumers who were found holding two Consumer cards illegally have been suspended.
Sources pointed out that strict inspections will be conducted over the complaints of consumers do not received LPG cylinders even after months of booking.
Accordingly, the Gas agencies have instructed to provide gas to the newly booked ones at the earliest.
Serious actions would be taken up against those agencies which failed to deliver gas to consumers promptly.
Sources suggested that providing electronic cash memos to consumers would be helpful in preventing refilled gas cylinders from finding its way into black market and appealed to the consumers to take the computerize case memo.
