Banian Repertory Theatre presents "Langmai Chanu"

"Langmai Chanu", the latest play produced by Banian Repertory Theatre under the sponsorship of Chief Minister Artistsingi Tengbang (CMAT), was presented at the auditorium of Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU), Yaiskul Police Lane, here, on Saturday.
Presided over by Manipur Cultural Council chairman K Radhakumar, the programme was attended by Kalakshetra Manipur guru Heisnam Sabitri (Padmashree) as chief guest and Art and Culture deputy director G Dharmadas Sharma as guest of honour.
In her speech, Heisnam Sabitri appreciated the initiative taken up by the state government for the welfare of artistes including the benefits provided under CMAT, central grant and monthly pension scheme.
She then said that artistes have always taken up the role of promoting Manipur's art and culture, and further expressed belief that this will continue in the future, while stressing the need for encouraging and supporting artistes, especially from the side of the government.
The Padmashree awardee then said that artistes must be humble, respectful towards their teachers and practice their art with full sincerity.
Becoming famous or getting the people's recognition depends on our hard work and attitude, she pointed out.
Speaking on the occasion, G Dharmadas Sharma informed that one of the assistances provided under the CMAT is financial support for new production.
After the conclusion of the second phase of the scheme, the selection process for awarding grants for the third phase has been completed, the results of which will be announced soon.
He then said that the department has been and will continue to promote and develop the art and culture of the state, while appealing to the artistes and cultural groups of the state for cooperation.
"Langmai Chanu" has been written by Dr Makhonmani Mongsaba and directed by Ksh Phajaton.
