Although the existing CCTV cameras installed in different parts of Imphal city have not been able to make fully functional for the last many months, the State Government is planning to install more CCTV cameras in front of all the banks and offices in Imphal.
According to reliable sources, installation of CCTV cameras was initiated in Imphal city after the Ministry of Home Affairs gave its approval in this regard in 2011 .
The installation was completed in April last and the CCTVs were put into use on trial basis.
However, CCTV cameras could not be made operational during night due to poor power supply.
Nonetheless, considering the need to install more CCTVs, the state government has decided to put in place CCTV cameras in front of all the banks and government offices as well.
Sources further disclosed that the State Government is also planning to submit a proposal to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for installation of solar street lamps in Imphal city to solve the problem of shortage of power supply at night.
Furthermore, construction of a control room within the complex of Imphal West District Police has been completed and installation of the required machines started.
Trainings for using the machines would also be imparted by experts from outside, sources added.
