Majority of injuries from bulets: Committee

Around 90 percent of 212 individuals injured during the course of the on-going vio-lence and currently undergoing treatment at JNIMS hospital under the aegis of JNIMS Re-lief Committee are from bul-let wounds while two persons succumbed to bullet injuries suspected to from sniper rifles.
Addressing media persons on Wednesday at JNIMS, Relief Com-mittee chairman Bon Khurai said that the Committee has so far
provided first aid to 212 individuals injured in the violence and un-derwent treatment at JNIMS.
The main task of the committee is to provide first aid to the injured and then facilitate free treatment at JNIMS under the aegis of director professor L Deben and MS Dr Kh Lokeswar.
Till May 31, the com-mittee has given first aid to 212 persons injured in the violence since May 3 and 90 percent of them were hit by bullets.
Among them, two persons who sustained bullet injuries sus-pected to be fired from snip-er/automatic rifles have suc-cumbed.
There were identified as Thangjam Lemba, 27 of Pukhao Phugu and Nandeibam Rojen, 35 of Yumnam Patlou According to Bon Khurai, the committee has so far expend-ed Rs 3,56,571 in treatment of violence hit people but only received Rs 6000 as donation from public.
Patients needing dialysis are being referred to Raj Medicity and their medical costs are being provided with contri-butions from JNIMS doctors.
Apart from medical treatment, the committee is providing food to patients, he said and appealed to the public to donate generous-ly so that the committee could continue its service smoothly.
