Imphal, October 28 2014:
The proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has said that seemingly fast growing economy of Manipur is anti-poor and it is favouring only a handful of people who are close to the Government.
According to a statement issued by the RPF's Publicity Secretary Roben Khuman, the people of Manipur have been languishing in underdevelopment since their annexation by the Indian Government.
The economy of the State is reported to be growing much faster than the average Indian economy, but the condition of Manipur is still at the worst with no sign of proper development.
A noted economist of the State even pointed that the grow rate of Manipur is much greater than the average growth of India, but the figure seems to be quite misleading with most of the people being suppressed economically by those in power.
The questionable economic development of Manipur is never made transparent by the Indian Government.
The government agencies have not properly pointed out the sectors or groups which have been benefited by such economic policy.
In the recent past, Manipur has seen some changes with the emergence of new communication technology, roads, bridges, airports, railway line, luxury hotels, media etc.
However, these developments are confined only to the main market places.
The interior and remote parts of Manipur have been neglected and deprived of development despite of various schemes and programmes of the Indian Govt, the statement said.
