Cultural function marks adoption of SDGs by UN

Imphal, September 23 2015 :
A cultural afternoon was oragnised at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex, Imphal by Big Sisters' League (BSL) and Human Rights Alert (HRA) supported by several civil society organizations to welcome the United Nations (UN) General Assembly's adoption of a set of 17 international development goals known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The programme under the theme "Light the Way � Manipur" commenced at around 3.30 pm and went one till evening.
Rajkumar Imo Singh, MLA of Sagolband A/C and S Saratkumar Sharma, Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights graced the function as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

The cultural function began with a welcome address by Chabungbam Joymati of Big Sisters' League.
The opening song was sung by Elangbam Onibala Chanu .
The keynote address was given by Babloo Loitongbam, Executive Director of Human Rights Alert .
In his address, Babloo said "SDGs are about our lives.
Its targets ending poverty and hunger, improving health and education, making cities more sustainable, combating climate change, and protecting our oceans and forests by the year 2030" .
After his address, the evening was enthralled by Kabigailiu, Joana Gangmei, M Anshakla and W Lillian with their violin recital.
This was followed by performances by Yumnam Jinet and RK Deepika of Indigenous and Contemporary Music Studies Institute(ICMSI) .
Testimony during the function was given by representatives of Extrajudicial Executions Victim Families Association, Manipur.
After this there was a guitar duet by Khawaish and Parash of ICMSI.
After the speeches delivered by the guest of honour and chief guest, vote of thanks was given by RK Nolinikanta.
This was followed by a musical performance by Bulu Maishnam and Jack.
As the evening ended, the participants lighted candles to commemorate the occasion.
