Imphal, July 23 2010:
The Campaign for Survival launched by All Manipur Anti-Drugs Association (AMADA) demanding the Government to ensure availability of essential commodities at adequate quantities as well as effective price control measures has been continuing uninterrupted.
The 12th meeting of the campaign was held today at Thoubal Keithel under the joint aegis of the AMADA, Thoubal Keithel Nupi Lup, People's Welfare Forum, Thoubal District and Social Reformation Union, Thoubal.
Speaking at the meeting, advisor of Consumer Club Manipur, N Naba exhorted the public to ask for cash memos while buying goods.
Saying that this would go a long way in protecting rights of consumers, Naba also asked shopkeepers to give names of their shops and furnish cash memos to customers.
President of Drivers' Union Manipur, S Manglem asserted that the present crisis of food scarcity is an artificial one.
He questioned as to why the Government did not inform the public about the exact quantities of rice, fuel oils, LPG etc required by the people of Manipur in a month.
He wondered at the failure of the Government to distribute the goods already brought in by transporters.
Secretary of the Thoubal Keithel Apunba Nupi Lup, Noyon Leima demanded that Government should control prices of all commodities.
She went on to assert that there is no guarantee that another Nupilan would not break out if the present trend of scarcity and Government's indifference continues any longer.
