Imphal, June 23 2013:
President of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Manipur State Unit Thounaojam Chaoba has alleged that the state budget for the year 2013-14 is anti-people aiming to benefit only some sections of the middle-class while leaving out the poor masses.
He was talking to media persons on the sideline of the death anniversary observance of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee held at the office of BJP Manipur, Nityapat Chuthek here today.
Chaoba further said that the state budget lacks provisions for human resource development and employment generation for unemployed youths of the State.
There are also no provisions for developing agriculture and allied sectors, small scale industries and tackling climate change, he noted.
The State President maintained that the State government is inconsistent in its statement given in the House regarding the power sector.
Moreover, the state government could not even complete the work of laying 400 KV line despite repeated claims of augmenting power supply in the State, he contended.
Chaoba suggested that the State government should acquire all power produced from Loktak Project to enhance power supply in the State instead of spending huge amount of money in purchasing power from other States.
He continued that introduction of pre-paid billing system has deprived power from the poor masses.
The Loktak Hydro-electric Power Project was handed over to NHPC by the State government without any consent from the public, Chaoba averred.
Making a critical comment on upgradation of Imphal Airport to an international airport, State BJP President Chaoba said that the deplorable National Highways of the State are far more important for development than to have an international airport.
He also urged the authorities concerned to improve the deplorable condition of the National Highways as soon as possible.
