Imphal, February 23 2022:
Janata Dal (United) will take a huge role in the formation of the new government after the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, asserted JD-U Lok Sabha MP Sunil Kumar.
Speaking at a political conference held at Citizens' Club, Soibam Leikai on Wednesday, Sunil said that JD-U is part of the coalition government at the centre and as such, would be playing a huge role in the formation of the new government.
He then said that Wangkhei candidate Thangjam Arunkumar would not only win the polls but also get a ministerial post.
The MP continued that as Arunkumar himself is a sports enthusiast, it is important to elect an enthusiast like him to further propagate the state's identity as a sports and cultural powerhouse.
In his speech, Arunkumar assured of addressing all grievances and issues of Wangkhei AC and urged the voters not to exchange their precious votes for meagre sum of money and instead elect a sincere and honest representative.
Social activist Chongtham Bijoy, who also attended the conference, recounted his association with BJP for around 27 years as the party's chief spokesperson.
However, the present BJP is nothing like the old one, whose objective was to remove the corrupt the Congress government, but is now serving as the personal coffer for CM Biren, he alleged.
Anyone who objects to this is automatically expelled from the party, he remarked.
Expressing belief that JD-U will replace Congress and BJP and serve the people, Bijoy pointed out that BJP took in O Henry, who is an accused in the Airport drug case, as advisor to CM, and Yamthong Haokip, an accused in the 2MR missing arms case.
Such acts are in contradiction to BJP's claim of working against corruption, he contended.
The conference was also attended by Lok Sabha MP and North East in-charge Ramprit Mandal, JD-U Manipur Yuva president Apollo Kshetrimayum and others.
