Kakching, January 22 2023:
District Congress Committee Kakching in collaboration with Block Congress Committee (BCC) Kakching, Wabagai, Hiyanglam and Sugnu staged a sit-in demonstration in front of BCC Kakching office at Kakching Bazar on Sunday, demanding handover of the January 16 Pallel drug haul case, wherein 5 police commando personnel were arrested, to the CBI.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, MPCC member Kshetrimayum Kennedy termed the arrest of the five police personnel with drugs as a blot in the history of Manipur.
He then appreciated the police personnel, SP Kakching and others, who helped in the seizure of the drugs.
He pointed out that there have been many drug cases in the state but most of them are rarely investigated or the mastermind(s) arrested.
As there is high possibility of this recent drug case also meeting the same fate, it should be handed over to CBI, Kennedy demanded, while adding that MPCC would not be making this demand if the government had a track record of arresting and strictly punishing the masterminds of drug cases.
Expressing MPCC's fear that a powerhouse of sports like Manipur may be completely destroyed by the influence of drugs, Kennedy said that mere suspension or service termination of the police personnel involved will not solve this issue but investigation and arrest of the masterminds will help.
If Kakching District Police were to arrest and help punish the masterminds, they will be forever remembered and honoured, he contended.
The sit-in protest, however, was later dispersed by a Kakching Police team around 3.30pm on the ground that the protestors did not have the necessary permission from the authority concerned.
