The High Court of Manipur has directed the Chief Secretary to show compliance report in relation to appointment of Chairman and members of the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) on or before August 30.A Double Bench comprising of Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice N Koteshore issued a ruling to this effect on August 7 after hearing a contempt case for non-compliance of an order issued by the High Court on January 4 this year to appoint MHRC members and other staff within three months.
According to a press release issued by Dr Th Suresh of the Dr Suresh Centre for Foreign Studies and Placement who is also the petitioner of the case, on previous hearing, Government advocate sought time to report compliance and accordingly the Court gave time and listed the same on August 7 .
Earlier, on the day of the hearing, the appointment order for six ancillary staff issued on February 1, this year was shown to the petitioner.
The Court was further informed that recommendation committee meeting for appointment of members of MHRC was held on July 4 and the proceeding was awaited, it conveyed.
