Bishnupur, July 16 2021:
Moirang Kendra Apunba Maira Paibi Ima Lup (MAMPIL) and Kege Moirang Kendra Apunba Lup (KEMKAL) have demanded that the authority concerned to implement the eviction order issued earlier for evicting encroachers along the road sides from Moirang Lamkhai to Moirang Laikhurembi under Moirang Municipal Council.
The two organisations have also warned of launching intense agitation if the eviction order is not implemented at the earliest possible.
A joint team of MAMPIL and KEMKAL on Friday inspected the one-kilometre long road from Moirang Laikhurem-bi to Moirang Lamkhai.
The tour team included MAMPIL president K Padamabati Devi, general secretary N Thaba Devi, KEMKAL president M Shantikumar, joint secretary Boy, advisor Yumkhaibam Surjit Khuman and members of other CSOs.
Speaking on the sidelines, MAMPIL president K Padmabati Devi recounted that SDO Moirang on February 16 had issued an eviction order directing the encroachers along the road sides from Moirang Lamkhai to Moirang Laikhurembi to dismantle their properties by February 23, or the government authorities will remove them.
But till now nothing has happened in this regard, which is very unfortunate, he said, and asserted that the SDO Moirang must resign considering that the officer has not been able to implement the order issued by himself.
The eviction order must be implemented immediately in view of the ongoing asphalting of the said road, she asserted.
KEMKAL president M Shantikumar pointed out that considering that the road which connects important sites like INA Memorial Hall and INA War Museum, Sendra Tourist Home, Omba Nurathel Garden, Ibudhou Thangjing Laikol and Keibul Lamjao National Park is not at par with present scenario, the government had issued an order for widening of the road for which it had marked areas for eviction.
But the encroachers have not vacated the place despite the order.
Moirang CSOs want better infrastructure but if the ongoing road repair work continues without evicting the encroachers the road will remain incompatible with present time.
Hence, the department concerned must evict the encroachers and if they do not implement it, they will resort to blocking of the road including stopping of ongoing road repair work, apart from launching other forms of agitations, he warned.
