Imphal, October 10 2021:
Janata Dal United (JD-U) national president and Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Ranjan has said that his party is all set to fight the 2022 assembly election in Manipur and it will ensure 50 per cent reservation of seats for women in Panchayat like that in Bihar if it comes to power.
Addressing a press conference at party's Keishamthong Hodam Leirak office here on Sunday, Rajiv Ranjan said that JD-U will fight the election on the plank of development and justice.
As of now, the party has not finalised the number of candidates to be fielded as it is little early.
However, the party will give priority on women candidates.
The JD-U government led by Nitish Kumar brought peace and development in Bihar and the party's government can usher in the same in Manipur, he said.
The national president also assured of 50 per cent reservation of seats for women in Panchayat if it comes to power in the state.
Rajiv, who arrived in Imphal two days ago along with some party leaders, said that peace and development seem to be elusive in Imphal.
A recent and crucial evidence of lacking peace is the abduction and murder of public leader Athuan Abonmai.
The party strongly condemns the gruesome murder and supports the demand by CSOs for bringing the culprits to justice.
After Nitish Kumar came to power in Bihar in 2005, Bihar has witnessed several developmental changes in terms of road connectivity, law and order.
As a result, women can now safely go out in night.
Rural areas are getting 22 hours a day of power supply and urban areas 24 hours.
The journey from Bihar to Patna used to take 12 hours in the past but it is only five hours' travel.
Bihar might be the first in the entire country to provide 35 per cent job reservation for women and 50 per cent reservation of seats for women in local bodies.
All these were results of the committed and sincere initiatives of a JD-U government, he said.
So far, the state has not been holding local body elections and the government should take up immediate measures to conduct the election.
On the other hand, the Government of India and NSCN-IM should never bring up any points on the negotiation table, which might affect the sentiment of Manipur and its people, Rajiv Ranjan added.
