DESAM conducts surprise check in schools

In a move to check the condition of government schools and the system of imparting education being followed, Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) conducted a surprise inspection visit to the government schools under Sagolband and Uripok Assembly Constituencies yesterday.
Informing this to media today, M Angamba, Vice President of DESAM, said that there are altogether 29 government schools in both the constituencies.
During their inspection visit, the volunteers were able to cover 12 schools in Sagolband and another 7 Schools in Uripok A/C.These schools have classes from I to X and the actual number of teachers in these schools is 207.However, only 165 teachers were found present at these schools.
Most of the teachers were also not performing their duties but taking nap in their rooms, Angamba alleged.
Moreover, out of the total number of 741 students in 19 schools, only 195 students were present.
There were also shortage of desks and benches in the classrooms of all the schools, he added.
