Sana Konung Semgat Lup to meet Prez on Palace takeover

Sana Konung Semgat Lup is prepared to meet the President of India on the controversial State Government's decision to take over Sana Konung for development into a historical monument.
Members of Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Kanglei Ema Lup (KIL), Khurai Athouba Meira Paibi (KAMP), Khurai Thangjam Leikai Meira Paibi (KTLMP), Union of Social Upliftment, International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA), Chanura Lamjinglen Kangleipak and Krishnachandra Thougal Lup took part in the continuing protest meet on the 47th day at Sana Konung here today.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest meet, President of Sana Konung Semgat Lup Meiraba said that the President of India would apprise of the State Government's decision to acquire Sana Konung against the wishes of the people.
Leaders of several social organizations decried State Government's decision during the protest meet.
They said that the decision taken by the State Government to acquire Sana Konung is undemocratic and undignified.
The decision is totally against the wishes of the people.
Abolition of the living institution of Sana Konung is akin to destroying own cultural identity.
The old-age cultural heritage of the State would vanish all of a sudden if Sana Konung is tuned into a dead institution, the leaders averred.
They further said that the throne of Royal Palace is governed by Ibudhou Pakhangba, the protector of the land.
The State Government should not try to demolish the Royal Palace, which is a symbol of once independent kingdom of Manipur.
The leaders further decried the Government for going against the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Sana Konung Semgat Lup in 2006.The decision to take over Sana Konung is also against the Merger Agreement signed between Manipur and India in 1949, they added.
