ITI contract teachers on sit in protest, threatens cease work strike

Demanding regularization and payment of due salaries for the last 10 months, the contract teachers of ITI and Contract Employees Welfare Association staged a sit in protest in front of the ITI complex today.
Speaking to media persons, T Sakhi, General Secretary of ITI Contract Employees Welfare Association said that, the contract teachers will continue their sit in protest for three days.
If the government does not comply with their demands and turns a deaf ear, they will be forced to launch other forms of agitations including cease wok strike.
She went on to say that in the 11 ITI Centres presently in the state, there are altogether 186 contract staffs.
Only 25% of the total numbers of staffs are employed on regular basis.
Except for some staff of the ITI Centre in Imphal, the staffs of the remaining 10 centres are on contract basis, excluding the Principal in charge.
Inspite of the assurance of Minister Ph Parijat that all the contract staffs will be regularized in two months time, no action has been taken up so far.
As salary for the last 10 months have not been paid till date, the contract staff of ITI are facing a really hard time trying to make both ends meet, he said.
