Most disabled persons in villages are victims of domestic violence: Project Officer, MANEDA

Emphasizing the significance of organizing awareness programme at the village level, Mangboi Singsit, Project Officer of Manipur North Economic Development Association (MANEDA) has pointed out that most of the disabled people living in villages are victims of domestic violence and they don't enjoyed the rights entitled to them by the Constitution of India.
The Project Officer of MANEDA was speaking during a Seminar on the Rights of Persons with Disability jointly organized by All Disabled Union Sadar Hills (ADUSH) and MANEDA at Persian Village Community Hall, Sadar Hills on Saturday.
While briefing on the activities of MANEDA with regard to the support given to disabled people throughout Manipur and especially to ADUSH and SDPAM (Senapati District Disabled People Association Manipur), Mangboi Singsit clarified that MANEDA is not an aid giving agency but a path-finder for the disabled groups.
Taking part in the seminar, ADUSH President Ahen Chongloi stressed on the importance of forming the organization and said that ADUSH was formed to give voice to disabled people at a higher level.
He also said that the union was also created so as to ensure the benefits entitled to people with disabilities are not misuse by anyone.
Bidur, Ex-Joint Secretary of SDPAM and Kamlienlal Guite, General Secretary of ADUSH also attended the seminar as resource persons and spoke on the schemes available for the disabled people and their rights entitled under the PWD Act, 1995 and the National Trust Act, 1999 .
