Preparatory workshop on RUSA held

A one day preparatory workshop for the principals of Government and Aided Colleges of Manipur on Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) was organized by Manipur State Higher Educational Council, Government of Manipur at Classic Hotel here today.
The inaugural function of the workshop was attended by Moirangthem Okendro, Education Minister as Chief Guest; HNK Sarma, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University as President; Neha Yadav, RUSA National Authority Consultant for Manipur and Prof B Venkatesh Kumar, (TISS) Consultant, RUSA National Authority, Government of India as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister M Okendro hailed the organizer for coming up with such an important workshop based on perspective, strategic and State Higher Education plan and added that the State Government has been striving hard to boost the school education by implementing SSA/RMSA and now it would be followed by RUSA which aims to ensure infrastructure, faculty support and expansion process for development of higher education sector.

He informed that the Central Government will be providing 90 percent fund for all the works related to implementation of RUSA while the remaining 10 percent cost is to be borne by the State Government. The Minister further informed that as per Manipur University Ordinance and UGC norms, July 23, 2013, the number of vacant posts in colleges in Manipur at present is 2130 vacant posts.
Out of this, the State Government is planning to fill up 866 posts at the earliest possible including 301 posts before the implementation of RUSA.
He also maintained that RUSA will take care of necessary steps to upgrade DM College of Arts, Science and Commerce to the status of deemed universities within 10 years.
