Imphal, February 25 2023:
The Federation of Haomee (FoH) has said that the state assembly should take a decision to implement National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur with 1951 as base year to shield indigenous people from the influx of outsiders.
According to a statement of the Federation, the state government should explore all mechanisms to save the indigenous people and take up necessary steps to implement NRC with 1951 as the base year.
Following the memorandum submitted by the Federation on July 12, 2022 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union home ministry directed the chief secretary of Manipur on August 5, 2022 to give suitable reply but there has been no positive action till date, the Federation said, adding that the stoic silence being maintained by the state government would be detrimental to interest of the indigenous people of the land.
The Federation also demanded implementation of the agreement signed between AMSU and AMSCOC with the then chief minister RK Dorendra Singh on August 5, 1980 which said that 'The foreigners must be identified on the basis of the census report (1951) and NRC (1951) and village directorate (1951)' .
