Don't keep question leakage scam under a cover: DESAM, AIMS

Imphal, February 23 2020: Following the leakage of class XI question paper leakage recently, the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and the Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) have cautioned that they will not remain silent until and unless the authorities concerned award appropriate punishment to the culprits involved in the scam.

Speaking to media persons at AIMS office at Keishampat today, DESAM vice president Oinam Sheetal said that the student unions have faith in just and fair investigation by the inquiry committee which was set up to investigate the issue.

The authorities concerned should not attempt to bury the matter or protect any of the culprits involved in the case, he cautioned reminding that similar cases of question papers leaking before the examinations have occurred in the past.

To ensure that the people do not lose faith in the Council Of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM), the culprits should be given appropriate punishments, Sheetal demanded.

The DESAM vice president further urged the authorities concerned to reschedule the class XI examinations in such a way that the academic calendar is not affected.

It may be recalled that on February 21, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan had moved a call attention motion during the ongoing Manipur State Legislative Assembly session regarding the question paper leakage scam.

In response, Education Minister Dr Th Radheshyam had assured that an inquiry committee had been set up to investigate the matter and that the culprit (s) involved will be suitably punished.

The Class XI examination conducted by COHSEM began on February 17 and was meant to conclude on February 26 .

However, after examinations of just two papers were completed, the question papers for MIL, Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology were all leaked.

On the other hand, AIMS president Ksh Romen condemned the incident at Praja Higher Secondary School exam centre in which a female student appearing the class X or HSLC examination fainted and had to be rushed to RIMS for treatment after she was allegedly threatened by a flying squad of Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) .

Claiming that the student might not be able to prepare for the remaining papers, he appealed to BSEM and the authorities to see if special arrangements can be made for the student to appear for the remaining examinations.
