Improving healthcare system top priority: Dr Ranjan

Health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh stated that objective of the state government to set up medical college in the hill area is to make up shortage of doctors faced by the state.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of 2016 batch MBBS students of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), held at its Jubilee Hall on Saturday, the health minister noted that humans not only consider doctors as almighty god but also love them and accordingly doctors need to have the spirit to serve the needy people.
He also said doctors should be blessed by virtue of their sincere and noble service they render to patients.
A doctor has huge responsibility after graduation from a medical college.
During the students' period, one can learn a lot of things and experienced many different lessons.
All the knowledge they gained should be dedicated for the service of the humanity, he said.
According to Dr Ranjan, the present BJP government is giving top priority to improving the healthcare system.
The state is facing shortage of doctors and as such the government is planning to set up a medical college in hill area to address the problem, he said adding that state government will extend all possible help in making up shortage of RIMS, Imphal.
While asserting that help from stakeholders and public is required in bringing collective improvement to state's healthcare system as professional doctors alone cannot achieve the goal, Dr Ranjan said the state government has plan to synergise with different departments to bring healthcare system on a positive line.
In his speech at the event, RIMS director professor A Shanta urged young doctors to learn as much as possible so that one can perform, transform and reform the society.
The event was also attended by NEIGRIHMS, Shillong director Dr Nalin Mehta, chief cardiac surgeon of Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Kolkata Dr Lalit Kapoor, RIMS academic dean professor Brogen Singh Akoijam and others.
