TDC extends financial aid to slain truck driver's family

Imphal, April 21 2013:
Transporters and Drivers' Council(TDC) has handed over an amount of Rs 50,000 to the family of driver S Babu, who was shot dead by suspected cadres of NSCN-IM on April 17 at a place between Seijang and Charoi Pamdongba Village along Imphal-Jiribam road on April 17 .
A joint team of TDC and Bus Owners' Association led by President of TDC H Ranjit personally went to the house of late S Babu at Samurou and handed over the amount to the bereaved family members.
Interacting with the family of the deceased and representatives of the JAC formed against the killing, Ranjit also gave the assurance that TDC would fully support in all the agitations taken up by JAC in pursuit of their demands for justice to the slain truck driver.
He also informed the family members that further course of agitation to be taken up by TDC in connection with killing of Babu is being discussed and all suggestions in this regard are welcome.
It is the primary objective of TDC to ensure punishment of the culprits involved in the killing and has pressed the State Government to come in terms with the JAC.
Further, the TDC President stated that the JAC is all set to put forward a charter of demands to the State Government.
The charter of demands include punishment of the involved killers; adequate securities along the National Highways; payment of Rs 10 lakh to the family of S Babu as compensation and a suitable government job to the next of kin of the deceased and also to give compensation for the burnt down trucks.
Meanwhile, sit-in-protest and other form of agitations still continue at Shamurou area against the killing of Babu, whose body is still lying in the mortuary of RIMS hospital.
