The International Observation Committee on Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP) has announced that it will observe the 290th Puya Mei Thaba (burning of ancient scriptures) on January Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today.
ICOP convenor H Dhoni appealed to the people, from both the hills and the valley, to take part in the observation which will be held at old Palace and Menjor Multipurpose Research Centre, Palace Compound.
On the day, as a part of the observation, a Puya Mikonba event will be performed at Kangla Heikrumakhong at 9 am before a floral tribute event at Kangla Uttra in honour of the ancestors.
He continued that before the observation, the Salai Taret flag will be hoisted at half mast at Alpha BCI Memorial Academy, Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai from January 25 to 27 and students will wear black badge in memory of the burning of the Puyas.
He then appealed to all not to call any bandh or blockade on the day of the observation.
