Imphal, February 09 2013 :
Reacting against the possibility of implementing the 6th Schedule of the Indian Constitution in any part of Manipur, International Meeteis' Forum (IMF) has categorically stated it would create chaos in the State.
Speaking at a discussion session organized jointly by IMF and Bashikhong Meira Association (BMA) on the topic of 'Greater Nagaland, Kukiland and Sixth Schedule' at the premises of BMA today, Rk Rajendro, President of IMF, stated that the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India needs to be discussed in detail by the people of the State.
He observed that implementation of Sixth Schedule in any part of a State guarantees greater powers and autonomy to that particular area.
Powers for sole administration of the area and the products of the area lies in the hands of the area and not to the State.
So, implementation of Sixth Schedule in the hill areas of Manipur, which constitute 90 percent of the total land area of the State, will certainly lead to eruption of problems, which could never be solved.
He also emphasized on the non-feasibility of the present demand of Greater Nagaland and Kukiland by carving out portion of land from present Manipur and stated that there would be no more Manipur if these demands were to be met.
As such, there is an urgent need to discuss the matter in depth.
