6 CDOs hurt in encounter with Kuki militants

Imphal, May 31 2023:
Five police comman-do personnel suffered bullet wounds in an encounter be-tween Bishnupur district police commando and Kuki militants at Tangjeng Ahallup under Kumbi police station in Bish-nupur district on Wednesday.
The injured police comman-dos are identified as SI Salam Gyanendro, 4 IRB rifleman at-tached to Bishnupur commando Elingalong alias Alex, constable Khangembam Janaranjan, head constable L Gojendro and 2IRB rifleman attached with Bishnu-pur police commando Prasanta.
Salam Gyanendro and Alex are currently undergoing treat-ment at Advanced Priyadarshini hospital and their condition is stated to be serious.
According to a police source, Kuki militants fired towards a team of Bishnupur district commando which moved to Sugnu Tangjeng Ahallup Chingjao area.
An encounter ensued between the two sides during which four comman-do personnel were wounded while another commando was hit when Kuki militants fired towards another commando team recovering a Rakshak ve-hide left in the area on Tuesday due to mechanical failure.
Meanwhile, one police corn-mando also suffered bullet in-jury when Kuki militants fired towards a team of Imphal %Vest police commando at Kan-glatongbi at about 4.30pm Wednesday.
The injured police commando has been identified as Phijam Sanatomba, 33 son of late Rajen of Kairembikhok Maning Lekai.
According to a police source, a police commando team on duty to prevent unwanted incident in Kanglatongbi area was fired upon by Kuki militants resulting in an encounter as the commando retaliated.
During the encounter which lasted for around half an hour, Sanatomba got hit and was rushed to RIMS hospital for treatment.
