Imphal, May 29 2021:
Covid-19 positive patients who are in serious condition and undergoing treatments are continuing to face an uphill battle, especially the poor patients who do not have the means to pay for the daily medical expenses.
Many Covid-19 patients, after their conditions have become worsened, are admitted to government hospitals, which are already under tremendous stress due to various reasons.
Amid this, many are admitted to private hospitals with the hope of getting better treatment.
However, poor patients struggle to foot the daily medical expenses of private hospitals when they are already facing the effects of the pandemic.
The situation of daily wage earners in particular gets more difficult while trying to avail basic medical care.
In a Facebook post on May 23, CM N Biren had announced that the hospitalisation of Covid patients would be covered in CMHT and PMJAY empanelled hospitals.
If the coverage is extended to other non-empanelled hospitals, it will help alleviate the financial burden on poor patients.
Additionally, the government could reimburse/refund part of the medical expenses to the poor patients who have tested positive and are undergoing treatment.
