Imphal, December 28 2012:
The Saikul Area Foot Hills Naga Association (SAFNA) has condemned the incident of Napetpali where a young tribal girl was molested by three persons in the evening of December 24 .
Terming the incident as most unfortunate and unwanted, Mathankhui Zimik, President of SAFNA, however, stated that it would be wrong to target and blame the whole community for the crime committed by some individuals of a community.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Mathankhui Zimik stated that the incident of Napetpali cannot be taken as communal.
It was not a crime committed by Meetei community as whole towards the Tankhul community; rather it was a crime committed by three miscreants of Napetpali.
Likewise, the incident of Chandel, though heinous and condemnable, was a crime committed by a single individual.
So, it would be wrong on our part to blame the whole community of the culprit for the crime.
Mathankhui expressed happiness over the role played by Nongren Meira Paibis in arresting the three miscreants involved in molesting the tribal girl and appealed to the State Government for giving befitting punishment to the three culprits.
Furthermore, he appealed to all concerned for handing over the seven mobile phone handsets, a sum of Rs 2500 and the Ipod, which belong to the victims and have been recovered from the miscreants to their respective owners.
SAFNA has also extended gratitude to MLA Yamthong Haokip for helping the bandh victims suffered unwarranted attacks along Imphal-Ukhrul.
