Royal Palace should always be associated with King: Activists

Deliberating on the issue of development of Royal Palace proposed by the State Government, many prominent social activists have expressed their desire for keeping the Royal Palace with the King even if the State Government takes up beautification works in and around the Palace Compound.
A one-day discussion programme on "Royal Palace for the Future Generation" was held at the auditorium of Art and Culture Department, Palace Compound here today.
In the discussion, Advisor of IPSA Ibotombi Khuman said that the Royal Palace should always be associated with the King.
The historical and cultural aspects of the Royal Palace should not be destroyed in the course of its development and beautification.
He also appealed to the Government to take up the development works of the Royal Palace in a proper manner after having consultations with experts.
Advocate P Tomcha stated that the Merger Agreement signed with the Indian Government did not contain any provision for customary rights and so the King still enjoys the privilege of customary rights in the State.
Any move to demolish the sanctity of the Royal Palace would be challenged at the United Nations, he said.
Social activist Kangjiya said that the Govindajee Temple has been removed from the ambit of Royal Palace and so anymore threat to the sanctity of the Palace could not be tolerated by the people.
