Imphal, November 26 2014:
Manipur People's Party (MPP), Chanura Marup (Women's Wing) has accused the Manipur Government of constantly trying to choose Thoubal as the 'right district' every time opportunities for taking up development projects come up in the state.
On Wednesday, an MPP team along with local residents of Phayeng, Koutruk, Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang villages in Imphal West travelled around Koutruk Sabal and Harao Lok Ching areas, which have been proposed for setting up the Sport University for the state against the Manipur Government's plan.
Prior to the visit, Koutruk, Senjam Khunou & Senjam Chirang Development Organisation organised a huge public meeting wherein the MPP team led by party president N Slovakiran and hundreds of local residents were present.
People of the four villages have proposed the Manipur Government to select a proper site from the areas, which will not need compensation, for the sports varsity.
But the state Government has already decided to establish the Sports University at Yaithibi Loukon in Thoubbal district.
On the sidelines of the visit, MPP, Chanura Marup president Chandrakala Devi alleged that the Manipur Government has always been trying to choose Thoubal as the exact district for taking up development works.
Interestingly, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh is a native of Thoubal.
General secretary of the four three villages' organisation, N Aram said the Prime Minister, the state Governor and Chief Minister have ignored the demand for setting up the sports varsity either at Koutruk Sabal or Harao Ching.
He said the state Government will not need to pay compensation if the sports varsity is established at Koutruk Sabal or Harao Ching unlike the Yaithibi Loukon.
Aram said a land measuring 865 acre has been offered by the locals for the sports varsity which actually needs 420 acre.
He said the Government's plan to set up the sports varsity at Yaithibi Loukon has sparked widespread protest from the public.
MPP president Slovakian said his party will try its best to convince the Centre for preferring Koutruk Sabal or Harao Ching as the proper location for the sports varsity.
