Chandel committee seeks early completion of projects

Expressing dissatisfaction over the slow progress of all development projects related with road communication.
education, healthcare, sports and market taken up under aspirational district programme, People's Grievances and Reform Committee Chandel District (PGRCCD) has urged the government to complete the projects at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet held at Kanankhu village in Chandel town on Friday, PGRCCD secretary Wango Kohring Victor said that the committee was formed with ex-MP Bd Behring as the chairman following a public meeting so as to ensure development in the dis trict.
During a recent visit to several project sites, the committee found pace of the projects dissatisfactory and several villagers raised their concerns with the committee during the visit.
Consequently, a memorandum in this regard was submitted to the DC Chandel on June 21, he said.
The project for construction of a 15 km stretch of Pallel Chandel Road from Wangparel Lamkhai to Litan began from August 8, 2019 with the target of completing by February 5, 2021 .
However, it is far from completion.
The Lambung - Phiral Khullen and JNV Chandel gate - Lamkiang Khunthak roads also had year 2021 as deadlines but there are no progress on these projects, he said, while drawing attention of the government for completion of these PMGSY roads taken up by Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency (MSRRDA) at the earliest.
The Chandel to Sajik Tampak road is in a very bad shape.
BRTF is handling the Chandel - Khambathel section but they have no knowledge about the agency handling Khambathel - Sajik Tampak section.
Moreover, all roads leading to different directions from Chakpikarong sub-divisional headquarters are in shabby condition, he said.
Construction of the guest house at Chakpikarong has also stopped.
Despite the government's promise of providing household tap water connection to every family, no initiatives in this regard could be seen in most parts of the district.
Construction of GNM Nursing School in Chandel Christian village under MDS remains incomplete till today.
Chandel district hospital was upgraded to a 100-bedded facility but there is no progress in the infrastructural development work.
Construction of a G+1 tribal boys' hostel for Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School under tribal development department also ceased since 2018, he said.
The secretary also drew attention of the government to expedite the progress of District Sports Complex, Eklavya Model Residential School, FCI warehouse at Liwa Khullen, and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan of Chakpikarong.
He further appealed to the government to ensure adequate manpower at Chakpikarong Community Health Centre, which is the main healthcare facility for people living in several villages in the surrounding area.
The women's market of Japhou Bazar inaugurated by chief minister N Biren in 2019 is still lying unutilised.
The building has developed several cracks, Wango Victor said, while urging the government to repair the building and open it for the public.
Kankhu Women's market complex constructed under NEC funding was completed in 2020 but the authority has not inaugurated the facility till date, he informed.
The secretary also urged the authority concerned to complete the renewal of ration cards at the earliest so that the poor families could get their share of ration under NFSA.
