Khongjom Day greetings extended

On the occasion of Khongjom Day which is to be observed tomorrow, Governor Gurbachan Jagat and Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Lokeshwar Singh have extended greetings to the people and paid homage to those martyred Manipuris soldiers of Anglo-Manipuri war, 1891.Conveying his wishes for a grand success in Khongjom Day celebration- 2013, Governor Gurbachan said, "On this day, while paying obeisance to the valiant heroes who fell at the battle of Khongjom and other fronts in the Ango-Manipur war of 1891, we need to renew our pledge to preserve and defend the sovereignty of our country and prepare to face any challenge to it.
Let us all forget our differences and re-dedicate ourselves to the cause of the sovereignty of our country and for brining understanding, peace and harmony amongst ourselves.
Only this will lead us to the path of progress" .
ON the other hand, Speaker Lokeshwar said that we should not forget the courage and sacrifice of our forefathers namely Paona Menjor, Chinglensana and other brave martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for Manipur in the battle of Khongjom.
"With an aim to bring an advanced and prosperous Manipur, let us work for our motherland and live harmoniously by setting aside all the differences of caste and creed as done by those brave martyrs", he exhorted.
