15 vehicles destroyed, others detained

Jiribam, July 21 2014:
Consequent to the resolution of 7 student bodies of Jiribam to resort to severe forms of agitations to press their demands, around 15 vehicles including 5 Imphal bound were destroyed along national highway 37 near Lhalnom village in Tousem Sub-Division in Tamenglong District Sunday afternoon.
Five of the ill-fated vehicles belonged to transporters ferrying Betel leaves and nuts, while the rest were Tata Trucks working for the Railways.
They were travelling with security escorts.
Meanwhile, the leaders of agitating student bodies are scheduled to meet ADC Jiribam on Monday.
As stated by a student leader, the decision to continue or suspend the stir would be taken after meeting the ADC and discussing the developments from the side of the state government.
So far, the state government has issued notifications for recruitment of 140 teachers for lower schools and 8 contract lecturers for Govt.Higher Secondary School in Jiribam.
According to a JNN report today, there was no meeting between the student leaders and ADC Jiribam today.
The agitating students reportedly detained vehicles coming with security escorts including 4 transporting Betel leaves at Oinamlong, while they were trying to move on NH 37 clandestinely.
A leader of the agitating student organisations today said the student bodies want a concrete action towards fulfilling their demands for requisite teachers and infrastructure in Jiribam schools.
The state government should he held responsibility for any untoward happening during the stir, he added.
