Mizoram hosts first International NE Trade Expo

Organised jointly by Prithibi (Guwahati NGO), Percept Networks, Guwahati and Industries Department of Mizoram government, the first-ever International N.E.Trade Expo in Mizoram, was inaugurated today by Mizoram Industries Minister S.Hiato here at A.R.Ground.It is a 15-day event which has been participated by Nepal, Egypt, Singapore, Pakistan, Thailand and Bangladesh.
Addressing the Trade Expo inauguration, S.Hiato said such a big event like an international level Trade Expo organized in the remotest part of India such as in Mizoram is something great, adding, "It is quite timely that the Trade Expo is organized at this point of time when the Indian Government is carrying out its Look East Policy to boost trade ties with the eastern countries" .
The Minister thus expressed his hope that the Trade Expo will generate better relation and familiarity with the eastern countries.
The minister also said on the occasion that the people in the North Eastern India and those in the eastern countries are descendants of the same ancestor, and having resemblance in their physique and cultural tradition, and are even close in their food habits.
"Given all these, it is important that they build good relation and develop trade ties in order to help each other to progress", the minister said.
In this connection, the Minister also stressed on the need on the part of the North Eastern states to think over and prepare themselves under a fair competition regarding what products should be accumulated so that they should be suitable for marketing to the neighbouring eastern countries.
Speaking about Mizoram in particular, Minister S.Hiato said it is necessary that the resources and riches of Mizoram such as bamboo, handicrafts and other woven materials, are to be developed into a good quality products which will also be worth exporting outside the state.
Parliamentary Secretary Zothangliana, who also addressed the Trade Expo inauguration, also expressed his hope that the grand event would attract great number of visitors and would also help widen the outlook of the Mizos.
Principal Secretary P.C.Lallawmsanga said that the Trade Expo is in fact the need of the North East people to showcase their home-made products.
He also expressed his hope that the Trade Expo will provide a great opportunity for manufacturers in Mizoram.
Organizers said that the main objective of the International N.E.Trade Expo is to open up an opportunity and platform to display the varied industrial products and handicrafts in the country, especially from within the North Eastern states.
Manufacturers from Thailand, Egypt, Nepal, Bangladesh, Singapore and Pakistan are opening up their stall in the Expo.
