Imphal, September 19 2022:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joychandra Konthoujam has stated that it will always stand for the welfare of people settling border villages who are guarding the territory of the state.
On Monday, UCM in association with the Agriculture Department organised a "One-Day Farmers' Training Programme on Rejuvenation of Farm Economy through afforestation & distribution of Rabi crops" in continuation of its ongoing farmers' training programme at Kangpat Khulien Village Community Hall in Kamjong District.
The programme was attended by Joychandra as chief guest and Kangpat Khullen Village headman Joshua Chithung as president, while Nambisha village secretary Shangnaopang Shintuidang and Skipe village headman C Zingshongam Kashung were present as guests of honour.
In his speech, Joychandra Konthoujam assured of taking up all possible measures to help the border villagers, including urging the government to ensure delivery of benefits to people in remote areas, while adding that the border villages play a huge role in protecting the state's borders.
He continued that for Manipur to become self-sustainable, concerted efforts are needed.
Varied crops could be planted to make this dream a reality, he observed, while adding that UCM will help provide a market for the produces, if there is not any.
This will also help in improving the state's economy, he said.
Stating that development is impossible if the economy does not improve, Joychandra said that all works should be taken up with a long-term vision.
UCM general secretary Ng Deban urged all to keep aside differences and work together to help Manipur become self-sustainable.
During the programme, Ukhrul District agriculture officers Lungsem Luiram and Ramung Horam spoke as resource persons.
Later, seeds of Rabi crops including potatoes, American pea and maize were distributed to farmers Kangpat Khullen, Kangpat Khunou, Nambisha and Skipe villages.
