Health and IPR minister Dr S Ranjan Singh has stressed on the importance of making the public aware about blood donation to address shortage of blood in the state.
The minister was speaking at a mega blood donation camp organised as a part of the Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav on the theme "Donating blood is an act of solidarity, Join the effort and save lives" on Saturday at the Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapan, Manipur Voluntary Health Association office premise.
Addressing the gathering, minister Dr Ranjan pointed out that by donating blood, an individual donor will be saving precious lives.
While observing that the public seem to be unaware about the importance of blood donation, he explained that blood donation is not harmful to the individual, it is rather a modality of health care through which one can have the opportunity to undergo different tests for health.
More donors need to turn up to meet the required blood for saving lives, he added.
While pointing out that blood donation and health camps ire being organised in different parts of the country as a part of the birthday celebration of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the minister maintained that celebrating the birthday of PM Modi through conduct of blood donation programmes testifies that the government loves and cares for the citizens.
Moreover, launch of other health care schemes at the national and state levels by the governments, including Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan with the stated objective to elim inate TB in India by 2025, showcases determination of the establishment to ensure wellbeing of all the citizens, Dr Ranjan said, while also confiding that the state's healthcare authorities have been instructed to frame modalities to detect cataract in the state as a part of National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment.
Delivering the presidential speech, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the blood donation campaign and as well as various other programme organised all over the country to celebrate PM Modi's birthday shall continue for 15 days.
Serving the people is serving the god, he maintained.
The programme was also attended by LDA chairman M Asnikumar; MSACS project director Roshita Haobam; Health Services Manipur director Shasheekumar Mangang; NHM, Manipur director Somorjit Ningombam and JNIMS director Professor Deven Singh Laishram.
As part of the blood donation camp, certificates of appreciation were also distributed to the donors.
Meanwhile, in connection with Vikas Diwas (birthday of PM Narendra Modi), Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Thoubal in collaboration with Association of Voluntary Blood Donors Thoubal, organised a one-day voluntary blood donation camp at District Hospital Thoubal Blood Bank Centre on Saturday.
In a release, NYK Thoubal & Chandel district youth officer Michael T Mate informed the camp was attended by power minister Th Biswajit Singh, District Hospital medical superintendent Dr Ch Memcha Devi and BJP Manipur president A Sharda Devi.
A total of 23 donors (19 males and four females) donated blood during the camp, it added.
NYK continued that similarly, NYK Chandel in collaboration with Monsang Pantha Youth Club observed Vikas Diwas by conducting cleanliness drive at Monsang Pantha village in Chandel district.
On the other hand, social welfare minister H Dingo on Sunday donated blood at RIMS Blood Bank as part of Seva Fortnight' to mark PM Modi's birthday on Sunday.
