World Population Day observed in state

State Health Society, National Health Mission (Manipur) and Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services jointly observed World Population Day under the theme 'Provision of family planning services even in crisis, for self-reliant nation and family' at IMA Hall, Lamphelpat on Friday.
Earlier, advisor to CM (health) Dr Sapam Ranjan flagged off a mass rally from the directorate office at Lamphelpat and the rally culminated at IMA hall, where the main observance function was held.
Attending the function as chief guest, Dr Sapam Ranjan said that there is not a single sector that is not affected by Covid-19 pandemic and the human race is fighting for survival.
On the other hand, early or late marriage has its own impact in the society and it is time the youth are made fully aware on family planning.
It is also important to let the public well versed with the various aspects and importance of family planning, he said, while lauding the role played by ASHA workers in this regard.
Regarding the pandemic, Dr Ranjan urged the public to get their vaccines stating that vaccination is the only lasting solution to the pandemic.
One should take care for themselves so that they do not get infected by the virus.
However, the vaccination rate is very low in the state and it is one of the reasons for the increasing number of new cases, he said.
Dr Ranjan also urged the public to support the government's policy and strategies to fight the pandemic.
NHM state mission director Dr N Shyamjai, health services director Dr K Rajo, family welfare services director Dr Paozachin Guite and JNIMS director professor L Deben were also present at the function as guests of honour.
