Ukhrul, November 12 2011:
Expressing deep concern over the intermittent fratricidal clash between NSCN and ZUF, the United Naga Council (UNC) appealed for truce among the warring groups in the greater interest of the Nagas.
In a statement issued Saturday from Tahamzam in Senapati, the UNC called for truce between the NSCN and ZUF engaged in sporadic armed encounter in Tamenglong district of Manipur.
On November 10, the NSCN-ZUF clash took place at Thanagong village in Khoupum valley.
The incident is the third fratricidal clash between the two parties with the first arm confrontation on October 8 at Subung and the second on October 18 at Guiteng in Tamenglong district.
UNC urged both the parties to desist from the undesirable confrontation while expressing that the fresh outbreak of armed conflict has also endangered the lives of the civil population in the area and resulted in their displacement.
"Every injury and loss of life in such a conflict among brethren is a tragedy.
We hope that this appeal will be received in good spirit and space will be created for the return of normalcy in the area," the Naga body appealed.
