Imphal, March 09 2014:
A one day public meeting on 'International Humanitarian Law & Armed Conflict in the Context of Manipur' was jointly organized by All Lilong Clubs Organization, Lilong Chajing and North East Dialogue Forum at Lilong Chajing Lai Community Hall today.
It was attended by Wairokpam Bonendro, vice-president of AMUCO and Sanasam Madhumangol, president of All Lilong Clubs Organization as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Addressing the gathering as one of the resource persons, Irengbam Arun, senior journalist, observed that there was a ray of hope in the minds of the people of the State when Manipur became a part of India but with the unabated crime and human rights violation there has been strong apprehension that people of Manipur are citizens of the country only for namesake.
He said the State has been overlooked in the education system of the country thereby leading to lagging behind other States in bringing quality education, which is essential for development of any State.
Maintaining that continuous racial discrimination against the people of north east is a clear indication that the mainland India has not accepted the people of the region as true citizens of the country, he asserted that the people of region have also been victimised and discriminated because of their different skin colour and appearance.
