'Eliza's death due to medical negligence'

Five months have passed since the death of Wangkhem Ongbi Eliza during delivery at RIMS hospital due to alleged medical negligence.
Even the dead body was not claimed by the family, and necessary rituals are yet to be performed.
30-year old Irom Ningol Wangkhem Ongbi Eliza Devi, wife of W Dinachandra from Langol Ningthou Manai in Imphal west delivered a girl child after surgical operation on May 10 last.
However she developed complications in her body.
On May 29 last, she was rushed to Sija Hospital and Research Institute where she breathed her last on July 14.Family members are suspicious that a vein might have been cut during the surgical operation.
During a meeting with media persons at her residence on Sunday, a saddened mother of Eliza Irom ongbi Manju (50) narrated that her pregnant daughter had attended Gynecologist Dr Nabakishore at regular intervals.
The Doctor also assured her normal delivery, as her health was fine enough for the same, she recalled.
Even though she was asked for normal delivery on May 9 check-up, the doctor informed the patient party regarding the need for surgical operation on the next day.
After numerous medical tests and surgery, Eliza gave birth to a girl child.
However, she developed complications which the doctors claimed to be kidney failure.
According to the mother, the ICU room where Eliza was admitted was full of mosquitoes and flies.
On May 29 last, Eliza was brought to Sija Hospitals and Research Institute at Langol.
Even though she got somewhat recovered with the treatment at Sija Hospital, Eliza died on July 14 last, told Manja.
Strongly dissatisfied with the manner of her demise, the family members refused to accept the dead body.
However, police handed over the body to Imphal municipality for cremation.
Even after five years of the incident, post mortem report has not been delivered to the family by Lamphel Police station.
Even the death rituals have not done till today, she lamented.
The mother told the media that memorandum has already been submitted to Director of RIMS, Chief Minister of Manipur, Union Health Minister and Indian Prime Minister seeking investigations into the death of Eliza.
However, no action has so far taken.
The newly constituted 3-member Committee of Indian Medical Council (IMC), after an enquiry said that there were no lapses on the part of the Doctor.
However, the public/family members do not subscribe to the enquiry report of the IMC.
Now, the family members and the JAC against the unnatural death of W Eliza demanded re-investigation of the incident by a special team of doctors.
Dr Nabakishore allegedly offered Rs 30 lakhs to the Convener of the JAC Romesh, who was also present in the press meet.
However, it was not accepted by the latter.
