Imphal, July 06 2022:
The Kishan Cell of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the agriculture director demanding resolution of the issue of unavailability of fertiliser faced by farmers in the state when they needed it the most.
A team of the Kishan Cell led by its chairman S Bidyarani submitted the memorandum at the director's office located near Sanjenthong, here on Wednesday.
Interacting with the media after submitting the memorandum, MPYC leader N Popilal said that farmers are still facing shortage of urea despite the repeated assurances of the government regarding availability of adequate stock and fair distribution.
Congress strongly opposes the plan to distribute fertiliser through local MLAs, he also pointed out there are reports of some opposition MLAs getting reduced amount of urea than the actual requirement in their constituencies.
There are also reports of some MLAs favouring their near and dear ones while distributing fertiliser, he said.
Popilal also demanded an explanation on the allotment of fertiliser to MLAs of some constituencies where the same.
Even as the farmers are raising their voices over the failure of the government to provide urea in time, the same government is making claims of having adequate stock of urea and distributing the same to farmers, he said, adding that incidents of seizing illegal transportation of urea are being reported from different parts of the state and these incidents raise a serious question over the transparency of the government.
He then demanded the government to publicly share daily updates on available urea stock and distribution so as to ensure a transparent management policy.
