Imphal, May 29 2022:
Though the earlier plan of start ing cargo train service till Khongsang in Manipur from May 25 had been deferred owing to mudslide in Barak Valley of As sam recently, North East Frontier Railway is eyeing to begin the service from July this year.
In view of frequent blocking of highways in Manipur due to natural calamities, thereby causing severe inconvenience in bringing essential commodities to the state, North East Frontier Railway had planned to start regular cargo train service till Khongsang railway station from May 25.Union minister of state for external affairs Dr RK Ranjan had even written a letter in this regard to Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
However, incessant rain caused mudslide at Dima Hasao region in Assam's Barak Valley recently and rail track connecting Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur got snapped thereby spoiling the plan.
Restoration work of rail track at Dima Hasao is continuing at fast pace with keen initiative of the ministry of railway and it is likely that restoration work would complete by July this year.
Mention may be made here that first goods train reached Rani Gaidinliu railway station in Tamenglong district recently after inauguration of Khongsang railway station.
Distance between the two rail stations is 56 km.
