Universal Friendship Organisation (UFO) Khwai Nambul Mapal Branch, Uripok, organised an inauguration ceremony for a grid connected roof solar power plant (5kw) at Satjal Academy, near Uripok Cheirap Court yesterday.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh said that today's inauguration marks the fourth of such installation for Uripok Kendra.
The powerplant has been installed at various locations of Uripok so as to provide power for the people of the Kendra.
The Dy CM assured that electrification of all parts of the Kendra is his aspiration.
He informed that the power plant installed at Satjal Academy will not only provide electricity for the Academy but also for the surrounding areas, river bank localities and Lai Khurembi Leirak as well.
The 5 kw solar power plant can handle around 80 to 90 bulbs, he added.
He further said that renewable sources of energy should be opted as an alternative to meet the energy requirements in the State.
Joykumar further said that street lighting or domestic uses of power can easily be generated if roof top solar panels are installed.
Besides this, excess energy generated from the plant can also be sold to power grid thereby generating revenue as well.
Stating that the joint project of MANTREDA and MSPDCL will help providing the required energy in the State, Deputy Chief Minister said almost all the areas under Uripok Assembly Constituency will be covered under the project and street lighting in the areas will be completed within June this year.
The Deputy CM also handed over 50 LED bulbs and other necessary items worth around Rs 10,000 at the event.
MANIREDA Director L Manglem Singh and Satjal Academy, Uripok, Yumnam Rameshwor Meitei attended the event as the guest of honour and president respectively.
