A Wari Leeba symposium was organised by The Cultural Forum Manipur Rupmahal Tank Complex, BT Road Imphal at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Imphal auditorium today.
Art & Culture Director Aribam Shivdas Sharma graced the function as the chief guest while The Cultural Forum Manipur president Professor Huirem Bihari attended as functional president and Professor, Department of Manipuri, Assam University, Silchar Haobam Nanikumar as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest maintained that Wari Leeba is a creative art form adopted by the forefathers.
Maintaining that the stories in Wari Leeba are often based on Mahabharat, Ramayan or Krishna, he expressed happiness that stories based on the kings/ rulers of Manipur are being recited now.
Aribam Chitreshor Sharma moderated the symposium while one Soraisam Gunendra narrated story to the gathering.
Takhellambam Shyamkanhaai Singh presented a paper on "Manipurda Wari Leebagi Khongchat amasung Manipuri Naat-ta Wari Leebana Piriba Ithil, Hindu Laining" while Professor haobam Nanikumar Singh read out a paper on "Barak Tampakki Manipuri Khunaida Ramayan amasung Mahabharatki Wari Leeba" .
The Wari Leeba symposium will wrap up tomorrow with Mayanglambam Gourachandra as the moderator and Chana Lukhoi will recite story for the audience.
A paper on "Manipurda Wari Leebagi Khongchat, Sanamahi Laining" will be read out by Dr Makhonmani Mongsaba while Dr Sagolsem Lanchenba will be presenting a paper on "Manipuri Naat-ta Wari Leebana Piriba Ithil, Sanamahi Laining" .
