Imphal, September 22 2022:
While expressing strong dissatisfaction over the shoddy construction of drains on both sides of the Imphal-Ukhrul road from Khurai Lamlong Keithel to Chairenthong; works minister Govindas Konthoujam has said that punitive action will be initiated against the SO and the Mohori concerned, while the EE and the staffers will be transferred.
On Wednesday, PHE minister L Susindro accompanied by minister Govindas Konthoujam, PWD chief engineer N Subash and other engineers inspected the ongoing drainage construction work along Imphal-Ukhrul road.
Speaking on the sidelines, Govindas expressed his dissatisfaction over the shoddy work being carried out in the name of trying to meet the deadline.
The drains are not being constructed to ensure the flow of water but for the contractors to receive the bill without fail.
The department officers have also overlooked the quality while hoping for the work to be completed.
Thus, he said that the errors will be rectified before further disbursement of the bill, remarking that the people's discontent is right but for the government, it is unfortunate.
The minister then said that the areas were marked for construction of the drain after consultation with the DC Imphal East.
Majority of the drains are misaligned and not at the same level, which will need to be rectified.
As the work has not been done properly, the bill would not be cleared and action will be taken up against the SO in-charge of the work along with the Mohori, while the EE and the staff concerned will be transferred, he reiterated.
Govindas continued that the people also need to be vigilant, while remarking that being wilful will only invite losses.
If the work is unsatisfactory, the public can complain to the government, he said and urged the people to make use of the 'CM Da haisi' web portal.
