However, on that fateful day there was an incident at Machi Lamkhai along Tengnoupal-Shangshak road in between Simang village and Samukom Village where cadres of a particular militant group attacked and injured some Assam Rifles personnel by triggering IEDs.
Later on, the team went to the spot where the incident occurred and on reaching the spot the Assam Rifles personnel who were patrolling the area told the visiting team that some suspected militants attacked them at around 10 p.m.on January 14 and the Assam Rifles personnel also retaliated.
The Assam Rifles personnel also maintained that the militants might have sustained heavy casualties in the retaliation as they left behind some articles.
Five sleeping beds were also recovered from the site of the incident.
Moreover, six different sites alongside the road where the IEDs were triggered and the spot where the militants positioned during the attack were also shown to the team by the Assam Rifles Personnel.
Speaking to the media persons, NWUC president, Bliss strongly condemned the responsible group for planting and triggering IEDs alongside the road where villagers of the areas were travelling day and night.
While appreciating the Assam Rifles personnel for restraining themselves, the Naga woman leader also appealed to the concerned group not to repeat such incident and disturb peace and tranquility of the district in future.
It may be mentioned that the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has claimed that the attack was carried out by cadres of its armed wing, People's Liberation Army (PLA) from both sides.
