MU honours its Health Centre staff

Manipur University (MU), Covid Monitoring Task Force organised a reception function of staffers of MU Health Centre on Friday at the University Canteen in acknowledgement of their selfless service during the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown period and to express gratitude to these frontline workers.
In a release, the Task Force stated that the programme was attended by MU registrar Prof W Chandbabu as special guest with Task Force chairman Prof N Mohilal presiding over the function.
MU has been engaged in several socially relevant programmes during the Covid-19 pandemic.
It conducted public awareness, deputed research scholars as volunteers for Covid testing in state laboratories, manufactured alcohol based hand sanitizers, distribution of handmade masks, webinar on topics related with Covid-19, and interaction programmes with Covid survivors and experts.
The varsity has set up a permanent vaccination centre, a 300-bedded Manipur University Covid Care Centre in the campus in collaboration with government of Manipur, it informed.
The release informed that the institute has also organised distribution of essential commodities to Covid-19 affected people both in the campus and adopted villages, mass testing in collaboration with Imphal West district administration, distribution of medicines, providing ambulance services to the needy, arrangements for rehabilitation of domestic pets after the owner got infected and had to stay in CCCs.
Drafting of roadmaps for prevention against Covid which was submitted to the state government, publication of guidelines for offline examinations, guidelines for home isolation, preparation of a panel of experts for prevention of mental health problems, institution of livelihood guidance, lending of PCR machines to the government testing labs for RT-PCR processes, etc, were some other notable programmes implemented by the different sections of the varsity, it said.
The release further mentioned that MU Health Centre staff led by Dr Eshidang had also succeeded in saving a woman from Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai on July 7, who was brought with difficulty in breathing and movement (Anaphylaxis) caused due to allergic reaction to anti-pyretic drugs like Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, etc.
