The 2nd edition of India International Cherry Blossom festival which is the world's only autumn Cherry Blossom festival began in Meghalaya's capital Shillong yesterday.
Inaugurating the four day festival which attracted tourists from different parts of the country and abroad, Meghalaya Minister for Forests and Environment, Clement Marak said that the State Government is focusing on promoting tourism potential of the State by organizing such festival which will also help in protecting forest and wildlife biodiversity.
Stating that Cherry Blossom festivals celebrated in countries like Japan, USA, Switzerland, and Korea have established an intercontinental friendship, the Minister hoped that in the coming years, Meghalaya would also get international recognition.
Meanwhile the four-day 100 Drums Wangala festival of the Garo tribe in Meghalaya has begun in Garo Hills yesterday.
