State figures in UN drug cartel map: Govindas

Expressing concern over increase in substance abuse in the state and many youths taking to drugs, Youth Affairs & Sports minister Govindas Konthoujam has said that the YAS department will soon enact a practical youth policy to save youth from the drug menace.
Speaking as chief guest during the 23rd Foundation Day celebration of Herbert School, Changangei on Monday, minister Govindas described as remorseful that Manipur has figured in the United Nations' drug cartel map.
Something needs to be done immediately to the save youth from the drug menace and make them fit and healthy, More youth of the state are taking drugs and this indeed is very unfortunate for the state and the society.
Amidst such a worrisome situation, Herbert School took the initiative of bring ing out quality students as many of its students have been able to clear highly competitive examinations including UPSC.
Parents of many bright students have now stopped sending their children outside the state for schooling particularly at the higher secondary level as many students from the state's educational institutions perform better than institutions of other states, Govindas said.
While conveying that chief minister N Biren Singh has been working hard to make the state free from drugs, Govindas said that parents need to keep strict vigil of their children and prevent them from environmental influence as it is not new that bad colleagues spoil career of many bright students.
He also said that developing a good society requires developing good and disciplined students first.
The celebration was also attended by Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeshor, DMU vice chancellor professor N Rajmuhon and Herbert school principal Dr K Nabachandra.
As a part of the event, students of the school who secured positions in COHSEM examination-2022 were honoured with presentation of prizes.
